Incomplete Grade Policy

This page last updated: Sunday September 27, 1998 01:07

Requirements for successful completion of this course are given in the course outline.

All required assignments must be completed successfully to be eligible to pass the course.  Missing assignments result in a course grade of F.   Since assignments build on each other, often it is possible to satisfy the output submission requirements of early assignments using code from later assignments.

Assignments submitted past their due date are subject to penalties, as given in the course outline and as modified by class consensus from time-to-time.  After some period of time, assignments are too overdue to receive a mark.  Most assignments submitted after the course ends fall in this category.

To be granted a non-medical grade status of "Incomplete" in this course, you must normally meet all the following criteria:

  1. Good lab attendance.
(If you weren't working with me during the term to get things finished, you'll have a harder time convincing me that you deserve extra consideration.)
  2. High theory marks.
(Assignments completed after their final due dates will be worth zero; your theory marks must pull you through.)
  3. Advance planning and advance permission.
(I do not accept requests for "Incomplete" status after the last day of classes.)
  4. Ability to complete the assignments within a fixed period of time, normally within 60 days of the last day of classes.

I am prepared to read coherent, cogent written arguments petitioning me for exceptions to the above guidelines.  Talk to me first, then prepare your written proposal.

Your request for a grade of "Incomplete" must specify:

  1. What assignments will be submitted during the extension period.
  2. The reason for the extension.
  3. The length of the exension required.
