The actual questions on the Midterms and Final Exam are usually different. There may be a few new question types on the tests and exams that don't appear here. You can also see all the previous midterm tests in the **Class Notes** area of previous terms that I have taught this course. See my [Teaching Home Page]. Practice Test #1 ---------------- - Multi-page (two-up PDF) format: [practicetest1.pdf] - Answers: [Multi-column Answer File #1] Practice Test #2 ---------------- Each *practice* test tries not to include many questions from any previous practice test, but each *real* test is **cumulative** and includes questions from **all** previous practice tests. **To prepare for Midterm #2, use both Practice Test #1 and Practice Test #2.** - Multi-page (two-up PDF) format: [practicetest2.pdf] - Answers: [Multi-column Answer File #2] Practice Test #3 ---------------- Each *practice* test tries not to include many questions from any previous practice test, but each *real* test is cumulative and includes questions from *all* previous practice tests. **To prepare for the final exam, use *all* the practice tests, and all the midterm tests.** - Multi-page (two-up) format: [practicetest3.pdf] - Answers: [Multi-column Answer File #3] Blackboard Quizzes ================== As each practice test (above) is released, Blackboard will have some Quizzes containing samples from the practice test. See the **Assignments and Quizzes** section in the Blackboard left side-bar for your course. Each Practice Test will have an associated quiz that samples questions from the practice test. **These quizzes are not "practice". Quizzes count toward your final mark.** The quizzes are open-book, but the midterm tests and final exam are all closed-book (as will be your job interview). See the course outline for the mark weight of all course quizzes, midterm tests, and exams. Quizzes are not complete ------------------------ The quizzes are only small random samples of the above Practice Tests. They will often repeat questions and not all practice questions may be sampled. If you want to see *all* the practice question types that could be on the test, and only see each question *once*, use the PDF files from this web page, not just the online Quizzes. Quiz Details ------------ **Quizzes are not "practice". Quizzes count toward your final mark.** Each quiz is sampled from one of the above Practice Tests. Each quiz is 10 questions long and you see the answers right after you submit the quiz. You can take the quiz as many times as you like. Every time you take the quiz, you get a random set of ten questions from the Practice Test. You will not see all the practice questions by doing quizzes; to see all the practice questions, you must do all the questions in the actual PDF practice test (given above). All quizzes close just before the Final Exam in this course; quizzes submitted after the Final Exam begins may not count toward your best score. Your mark for each quiz is the average of your **five** best quiz scores. Examples: - Your best scores: 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 9 8 7 7 4 - Your quiz mark: (10+10+10+10+10)/50 = 100% - Your best scores: 10 10 10 10 9 8 7 7 4 3 - Your quiz mark: (10+10+10+10+9)/50 = 98% - Your best scores: 10 10 10 9 8 7 7 4 3 2 - Your quiz mark: (10+10+10+9+8)/50 = 94% - Your best scores: 10 8 8 8 8 5 4 4 4 - Your quiz mark: (10+8+8+8+8)/50 = 84% - Your best scores: 10 10 8 (only three quizzes submitted) - Your quiz mark: (10+10+8+0+0)/50 = 56% Your score will be taken from the **five** best scores. The more times you do the quiz, the more likely you are to have a set of excellent best scores. You must have **five** perfect quiz scores in each quiz to get a perfect averaged quiz mark. Missing quizzes (fewer than five) count as zeroes. Only the **five** best scores are averaged. (Blackboard averages all the scores and thus displays your score incorrectly. Ignore the mark on Blackboard.) All quizzes close just before the Final Exam in this course; quizzes submitted after the Final Exam begins may not count toward your best score. **Note:** *Blackboard displays the quiz mark incorrectly, since it cannot calculate "best 5" and instead averages the marks of **all** your quiz attempts. Your quiz mark is actually the average of your five **best** attempts, not all the attempts as shown by Blackboard. Ignore the Blackboard mark; it is wrong.* Real Tests and Exams ==================== Each real test is cumulative and includes questions from **all** previous tests and practice tests, especially questions that were not well-answered on previous tests. Read the [Test Instructions] (all the words) before each test. Midterm #1 ---------- Read the [Test Instructions] (all the words) before your first midterm test. For full marks, enter the correct information on the mark-sense form and on your question sheet. Midterm #1 includes questions on the entire course up to the week before the test. Midterm #2 ---------- Midterm #2 emphasizes material covered since Midterm #1, but it includes many questions from material covered in Midterm #1 (especially the questions from Midterm #1 that were not answered correctly). Midterm #2 includes questions on the entire course up to the week before the test, and that means it contains questions from *all* previous practice sets. The Final Exam -------------- The Final Exam is a comprehensive exam of **all** course material. The Final Exam emphasizes slightly material covered since Midterm #2, but it includes many questions from material covered in Midterm #1 and #2 (especially the questions from those tests that were not answered correctly). The Final Exam includes questions on the entire course, and that means it contains questions from *all* the practice question sets. The exam was held on December 15, 2016.
