% Quizzes, Midterm Tests, and Final Exam % Ian! D. Allen - - [www.idallen.com] % Fall 2018 - September to December 2018 - Updated 2018-11-18 17:46 EST - [Course Home Page] - [Course Outline] - [All Weeks] - [Plain Text] Practice Tests ============== Each Midterm and Final Exam will have an associated set of unmarked practice questions (with answers) and a set of marked quizzes based on those practice questions. See [Practice Tests and Answers]. Test Quizzes (for marks!) ========================= As each practice test (above) is released, Brightspace will have some Test Quizzes, worth marks, containing ten random question samples from that practice test. Go to the **Activity** menu in Brightspace and select **Quizzes**. Each Practice Test will have an associated Test Quiz, worth marks, that randomly samples ten questions from that practice test. **These Test Quizzes are not "practice". All Quizzes count toward your final mark.** The Test Quizzes are online and therefore open-book, but the midterm tests and final exam are all closed-book (as will be your job interview). See the course outline for the mark weight of all course Quizzes, midterm tests, and exams. Test Quizzes are not complete samples ------------------------------------- The Test Quizzes are only small random samples of the above Practice Tests. They will often repeat questions and not all practice questions may be sampled. You will not see all the practice questions by doing only the Test Quizzes. To see *all* the practice questions, you must do all the questions in the actual PDF practice test posted in the Course Notes. *Review the full PDF file; don't rely on the Test Quizzes to prepare you for the test!* > If you want to see *all* the practice question types that could be on the > test, and only see each question *once*, use the PDF files from the > [Practice Tests and Answers] page, not just the online Test Quizzes. Test Quiz marking details ------------------------- **These Test Quizzes are not "practice". All Quizzes count toward your final mark.** Each Test Quiz is sampled from one of the above Practice Tests. Each test quiz is ten questions long and you see the answers right after you submit the quiz. You can take the quiz as many times as you like. Every time you take the quiz, you get a random set of ten questions from the Practice Test. You will not see all the possible practice questions by doing only the random Test Quizzes; to see all the practice questions, you must do all the questions in the actual PDF practice test (given above). All Test Quizzes close just before the Final Exam in this course; Test Quizzes submitted after the Final Exam begins may not count toward your best score. Your mark for each Test Quiz is the average of your **five** best Test Quiz scores for that Practice Test. Examples: - Your best scores: 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 9 8 7 7 4 - Your quiz mark: (10+10+10+10+10)/50 = 100% - Your best scores: 10 10 10 10 9 8 7 7 4 3 - Your quiz mark: (10+10+10+10+9)/50 = 98% - Your best scores: 10 10 10 9 8 7 7 4 3 2 - Your quiz mark: (10+10+10+9+8)/50 = 94% - Your best scores: 10 8 8 8 8 5 4 4 4 - Your quiz mark: (10+8+8+8+8)/50 = 84% - Your best scores: 10 10 8 (only three quizzes submitted) - Your quiz mark: (10+10+8+0+0)/50 = 56% - Your best score: 10 (only one quiz submitted) - Your quiz mark: (10+0+0+0+0)/50 = 20% Your Test Quiz score will be taken from the **five** best scores. The more times you do the Test Quiz, the more likely you are to have a set of excellent best scores. You must have **five** perfect Test Quiz scores in each quiz to get a perfect averaged quiz mark. Missing quizzes (fewer than five) count as zeroes. Only the **five** best scores are averaged. (Brightspace averages all the scores and thus displays your score incorrectly. Ignore the mark on Brightspace.) All Test Quizzes close just before the Final Exam in this course; Test Quizzes submitted after the Final Exam begins may not count toward your best score. **Note:** *Brightspace displays the Test Quiz mark incorrectly, since it cannot calculate "best 5" and instead averages the marks of **all** your Test Quiz attempts. Your Test Quiz mark is actually the average of your five **best** attempts, not all the attempts as shown by Brightspace. Ignore the Brightspace mark; it is wrong.* Other Quizzes ------------- The course may offer other quizzes than Test Quizzes. Those quizzes may have a different marking scheme. Read All The Words. Midterm Tests ============= Midterm tests and the final exam are closed-book, no aids (just like your job interview). You will be given scrap paper to write on, and you may also write anywhere on the question sheet. Midterm tests are 45 minutes long and take place in your 50-minute lecture class, not in your lab period. You must write your test in the lecture class section in which you are registered: 010 or 020. Each midterm test is 45 minutes long and contains approximately 45 multiple-choice questions similar to those found in the Practice Tests posted under [Practice Tests and Answers]. There may be more questions on the test than you can answer in the time allowed; answer the ones you know, first. Each midterm test is cumulative and includes questions from **all** previous tests and practice tests. Questions that were not well-answered on previous tests often re-appear on later tests. Read the [Test Instructions] (all the words) before each test for important instructions on how to enter your name, student number, answers, your lab (not lecture) section number, and the test version code on the question sheet and on the mark-sense forms. Use the [Algonquin Registered Name Game] link to test the spelling of your name before the test. I don't answer questions about these test instructions during the test. Talk to me and get your questions answered before the test begins! Put reminders for all your test dates into your phone!
