T114 Lab Topology

Those returning to T114 will notice some changes to the lab topology. They are now to networks running simultaneously. One Network is more directly connected to the college network infrastructure, and the the other is the "NATed" network as it was in the past.

Network One - The Primary network (BLUE)
This network is intended for basic connectivity to the college network and Internet. Students should not use static IP addresses on this network.

Connections:
1. Connect the BLUE patch cord to the (PCI) Startech NIC (Not the onboard NIC) in the PC.
2. Connect the BLUE patch cord to the BLUE jack on your work bench
3. At the rack, connect a short BLUE patch cord from your BLUE jack to the corresonding WHITE Jack.

IP Addressing on the Primary Network:

- 10.50.10.0 /24
- DHCP - Address Scope: 10.50.10.2 to. 10.50.10.200
- Address leases are set to 3 hours
- Addresses 201 and up are set aside for servers and admin use.
- PLEASE DO NOT USE STATIC IP's ON THIS NEWORK

Network two - Secondary Network (RED)
This network is intended for the complex requirements of some courses running in T114. There is more room available for setting static IP addresses, as well as the use of a Computer Studies controlled DHCP server and NAT (Network Address Translation) Server.

Connections:
1. Connect the RED patch cord to the ONBOARD NIC (Not the PCI NIC) in the PC.
2. Connect the RED patch cord to the RED jack on your work bench
3. At the rack, connect a short RED patch cord from your RED jack to HUB.

IP Addressing on the Secondary Network:

- DHCP - Address Scope 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.2.75
- Address leases are set to 3 hours
- Addresses .76 to .199 can be used for static addressing. Students typically use .76 to .199 - Addresses above .200 are reserved for admin use
