Announcements for Section 040
Updated November 26, 1999

Previous announcements are here.

Errata and Updates are here. Read this to get hints on how to answer the Reading Exercises.

Assignment 7 (Unix) is due 4pm Wednesday, December 8

Do not leave this assignment to the last week! I cannot easily answer questions about "why doesn't this work" by email - I need to see your scripts.
Assignments may be slid under the door of my office (W-B222B) up to the indicated time.
The Unix assignments are not the same for your section 040 and Maitang Mark's section.  Make sure you select the the assignment from this web page (not from Maitang Mark's web page) and get the correct assignment.
Assignment 7 (6%) is based on Chapter 14 (Week 13) and Chapter 15 (Week 14) of your Unix textbook.  The hand-in is a print-out of one telnet session log file (from the last Step of the Assignment).

Modifications to Course Outline and Reading Exercises

Ignore all of Chapter 9.  Without an attached printer, the exercises are difficult to complete.

Skim the Week 11 (Chapter 23) and Week 12 (Chapter 10 and 12) reading exercises.  (This material is useful in using Unix; however, it is not as important as knowing how to write and debug scripts.)  Spend most of your time on a thorough understanding the scripting material in Week 10 (Chapter 22) and the use of grep and sed in Chapters 14 and 15.

Assignment 6 (Unix) is due 9:30pm (evening) Thursday, December 2

Do not leave this assignment to the last week! I cannot easily answer questions about "why doesn't this work" by email - I need to see your scripts.
Assignments may be slid under the door of my office (W-B222B) up to the indicated time.
The Unix assignments are not the same for your section 040 and Maitang Mark's section.  Make sure you select the the assignment from this web page (not from Maitang Mark's web page) and get the correct assignment.
Assignment 6 (6%) is based on Chapter 22 (Week 10) of your Unix textbook.  The hand-in is a print-out of one telnet session log file (from the last Step of the Assignment).

Confirmed Final Exam Schedule Announced

The confirmed date for the DAT2333 final exam is 11:30 to 13:30 Saturday December 11 in the Gym.  The exam covers only the Unix section of the course, with emphasis on the material covered since the midterm test.  The format of the exam is part multiple-choice and part Unix script-writing (on paper only - there is no lab test).

Labelling your Assignments

  1. Print the Title of the Assignment (e.g. Assignment 4 - Unix)
  2. Print Your Name
  3. Your Student ID Number (040......)
  4. Your EMail address (abcd0001@algonquincollege.com)
