  1. Before subnetting, how many bits are available for host/node IP's?
  2. Before subnetting, how many hosts can be set up on this network?

We wish to subnet this address to handle several departments each with
no more than 40 machines per subnet.

  3. How many bits in the subnetwork address will be needed to handle 40
     host/node IP's per subnet?
  4. What will be the resulting network mask of the subnet?
  5. How many different subnets (departments) can we have?
  6. Suppose the department needs more than 40 machines on their
     subnet.  Is there room for more?  What is the maximum number of
     machines that each department can put on their subnet?

Answer these questions for *each* of the subnets:

  7a. What is the network portion of the address for this subnet?
  7b. What is the lowest and highest IP address available in the subnet?
  7c. What is the broadcast address for the subnet?
