====================================== What to Study for the MVS Midterm Test ====================================== -IAN! idallen@ncf.ca The MVS Mid-Term Test takes place in your Lab period in Week 13 of the course. You must prepare your "crib sheet" one day before the test (see below). The test is 80 minutes long. It contains a JCL problem similar to the JCL Example files and homework, and it contains some multiple-choice questions. The test is worth 10% of your term mark. The test covers JCL Examples 1 and 2 and the related homework and weekly notes files (Week 11, Week 12, and the first part of Week 13). The JCL parameters covered are listed in Week 1 and Week 2 of the MVSweekly.txt file. You must code syntactically correct JCL - see file studyGuide.txt The MVS test is closed-book and closed-notes. You will be placed on the Linux test machine with nothing available but the VI editor and an empty directory. (Your home directory files will be temporarily removed for this test.) You may not use ftp or telnet to connect to other systems during the test. Blank paper will be available for notes and diagrams; any paper you use must be handed in with the exam sheet. CRIB SHEET You are allowed to make one one-sided "crib sheet" for use in the test. Put your name and lab section number on the sheet in easy-to-read letters in the top left hand corner of the paper. The sheet must be handed in on real paper to your instructor the day before your scheduled test start time. (I'll collect them at the end of Monday's class. Class ends at 5:50pm; don't be late!) If you can't hand the paper to me in person, put it under my office door before the deadline. Electronic copies are not accepted. If you handed in the crib sheet on time, and it has your name and lab section number in the top left hand corner, you will get this piece of paper back a few minutes before your test begins. It is the only aid you are permitted. Crib sheets that are two-sided, have no name or section number in the top left corner, or are submitted after the 24-hour deadline will be discarded. Be accurate; be punctual. Your one-sided crib sheet must be no bigger than 8 1/2 by 11 inches (or metric A4). You can put *anything* from this term on this sheet (one side only); but, you must do the work to put it there. Crib sheets containing JCL that is not from this term (e.g. last term's midterm or final exam questions) will be discarded. Crib sheets that are copies of each other will be discarded. Magnifying glasses are permitted. You will use Floppix (not Windows) to connect to the Linux Test machine to write your JCL. No access is permitted to any other machines. What you must bring to the test: 1. You will need your Floppix diskettes (and your backup copies). You must know how to boot Floppix with DHCP enabled. You must be able to use the VI text editor to write JCL. 2. You will need a pencil to write in answers to multiple-choice questions. Multiple-choice answers will be written down (in pencil only) on mark sense forms. The Linux Machine will be offline from 8am on the day of the test until after the test is over and the JCL has been collected.
