A. Read Tutorial 3 (pages 99 - 142), practice on a PC, and answer the following
questions:
- Name the concentric recording bands on a diskette's surface.
- What is a byte?
- How many sectors are there in a track of a high density 3 and ½"
diskette? How many bytes are there in the sector?
- How many bytes are there in an allocation unit of a high density 3 and
½" diskette?
- One of my text file is 460 bytes long. When it is saved onto a high
density 3 and ½" diskette, how many bytes does the file occupy?
- What are the purposes of a boot record?
- Looking at Figure 3-4 of page 103, if a file starts at cluster number 102,
name all the clusters it occupies. If a file starts at cluster number 111,
how many clusters does it occupy?
- Give a good reason for the formatting utility to create two FAT tables.
- Name two main advantages that VFAT has over that of FAT.
- Name five file attributes available in Windows 95.
- Explain the steps used to find out the attributes of a file in Windows and
in DOS.
- Which file keeps track of the folders and files stored in a diskette?
- Explain the steps used to display the full MS-DOS path in the title bar of
a folders window.
- Name the steps needed to create a new folder.
- In the list view of a folder, explain how you would select a group of
files.
- Explain the quickest way to select all objects in a folder's window.
B. Read Tutorial 4 (pages 146 - 182) , practice on a PC, and answer the
following questions:
- What is a full path of a file?
- Is it true that moving files is easier with Windows Explorer than with My
Computer?
- Name two wildcards and explain their differences.
- If you wish to find all WordPerfect document files in MyFiles folder using
the Find facility, what would you enter in the Name list box and the Look in
list box?
- If you wish to find all Quattro Pro Spreadsheets in MyFiles folder using
the Find facility, what would you enter in the Name list box and the Look in
list box?
- Use the advanced find feature to find from the A: disk (or N: drive) all
hypertext documents you created in the lab that have your name on it.
- Name three types of information about file finding that are provided by
the Advanced tab of the Find facility.
