Perl Programming II

Due: Monday, January 25, 1999

Demonstrate your working Perl scripts to me on Monday.  (I expect you to complete most of the lab work during Thursday and Friday.)

Those students without a programming background will be given extra time to complete these exercises.  Those students who are more experienced at programming are encouraged to assist their classmates.

Purpose:

Learning Perl.

Assignment:

Text Reading:

Become familiar with your text book, Learning Perl, Chapters 9, 10, 12 (especially "Globbing"), and 13.  (We are skipping Chapter 11 completely.)

We will be covering material in Chapters 14 and 15 as well.  Read ahead!   You'll learn useful tools for writing scripts.

Exercises in Learning Perl:

Chapter 9, 10, 12, 13: Do all the exercises.  Nothing needs to be handed in.  I will ask to see demonstrations of your scripts next week.  You need some skills from Chapter 12 to do exercise 5 in Chapter 13.

Hand In:

Nothing.  I will ask to see demonstrations of your scripts next week.  I will make up some assignments similar in difficulty to the chapter exercises for subsequent hand-in.
